Days 1 – 3 Meru National Park
Today you will fly to Meru National Park where you will be met and driven to Elsa's Kopje. The lodge is named after Elsa, the lioness made famous by George and Joy Adamson's biographical book and film, 'Born Free'. Elsa's Kopje is virtually invisible to the eye as it blends into the rocky crags, just above George Adamson's original campsite. All of the nine individually built open plan cottages are luxuriously appointed and designed to incorporate the natural features of the rocky hillside, offering lots of space and double or twin beds, with en suite bathrooms boasting fantastic views over the plains. You'll have two full days to explore Meru, with activities on offer including day and night game drives, guided bush walks, meals in the bush, sundowners, cultural visits and day excursions to the Tana River. Massages and spa treatments are also provided. At Elsa's Kopje, dinner is almost always held outside, with candlelit tables laid out under the stars.

Days 4 –6 Shaba Game Reserve
Today fly to Shaba Game Reserve where home for the next three nights is Joy's Camp. Joy's has ten chic en suite canvas bedrooms raised off the ground, each with a private deck ideal for game viewing and relaxing while soaking up the wild, breathtaking environment. Apart from game drives featuring extraordinary wildlife, you'll enjoy bush breakfasts, guided walks, sundowners and cultural visits. The lodge also offers night game drives. You'll have two full days to explore the site where Joy Adamson reintroduced Penny the leopard into the wild. Shaba's arid landscape is home to many rare species, including the Gerenuk 'giraffe necked' antelope, the reticulated giraffe and the Grevy's zebra, as well as a healthy population of lion, leopard, and cheetah. Shaba is also a birdwatchers paradise with hundreds of species recorded here.

December - March, July - October
Kenya's equatorial location ensures warm weather year round, though it can be cool at night and first thing in the morning. There are two rain seasons, the long rains occur from late March to early June and short rains from October to December. The rainfall is sometimes heavy and when it does come it often falls in the afternoons and evenings. The hottest period is from February to March and coldest in July to August.
