Why we like it
• Located within the 85,000 acres of pristine wilderness in the Mathews Range
• The camp works closely with the local Samburu people
• A small and remote camp with only six tents
• Dramatic views of the Mathews Mountains
Not to be missed is a visit to the famous 'Sarara Singing Wells'. The Samburu warriors bring their cattle down to watering wells on a daily basis during the dry season. Human chains are formed down these wells, some of which are 10 metres deep, and while passing water up to the surface they will chant traditional Samburu songs. This whole amazing and unique process can last up to several hours a day.
Fiona exceeded our expectations. We had a tour guide (Mohammed) in Zanzibar and we rate him as one of the very best guides we’ve ever had (and we have travelled a lot). Mohammed's knowledge was outstanding compared to anything we had read.

Sarara is a special and unique camp due to its remote location, here find peace and tranquility and experience the haven of pristine wilderness in Kenya. Accommodation at Sarara is made up of six tents with open air showers and a beautiful family cottage with two bedrooms. The main lounge and dining area overlooks the dramatic Mathews Mountains and the natural rock swimming pool looks out onto a frequently visited animal waterhole.
Cool off in the infinity edge swimming pool with the most breathtaking views, this is a truly beautiful place to relax and take in the beauty of the stark mountains. In the morning wake up to fresh tea or coffee brought to your tent at a time to suit you. Afternoon tea is a scrumptious affair an array of home baked savory and sweet treats to satisfy all before you set off on your afternoon adventure.

December - March, July - October
Kenya's equatorial location ensures warm weather year round, though it can be cool at night and first thing in the morning. There are two rain seasons, the long rains occur from late March to early June and short rains from October to December. The rainfall is sometimes heavy and when it does come it often falls in the afternoons and evenings. The hottest period is from February to March and coldest in July to August.
