The Coast , Kenya
A perfect combination of beach hotel and coastal hideaway, Peponi Hotel is small and intimate and is still run by the original family who opened the hotel in 1967. Situated at the quiet end of Lamu Island, near the village of Shela just 24 rooms are divided into standard and superior room categories. The rooms are scattered throughout the grounds and all benefit from either ocean or garden views. Each of the rooms are individually decorated although all benefit from ceiling fans, mosquito nets, showers and fresh flowers. Watersports including windsurfing, diving and speedboats are available. There has also been an active Turtle Conservation Project operating at Peponi since 1992.

December - March, July - October
Kenya's equatorial location ensures warm weather year round, though it can be cool at night and first thing in the morning. There are two rain seasons, the long rains occur from April to June and short rains from October to December. The rainfall is sometimes heavy and when it does come it often falls in the afternoons and evenings. The hottest period is from February to March and coldest in July to August.
