In Laos, the guide added trips to the morning market and an opportunity to attend a shaman ceremony she heard about when we were in the village. I've seen some events, but I'll never forget that. I gather it's pretty rare to see it - the guide had only seen it once before.

The only hotel located on Phou Vao Hill - the Hill of the Kites - affords glorious panoramic views of the golden dome of the Vat Chamsi Stupa and the sacred mountain of Mount Phou Si. Each elegantly appointed room commands a gorgeous vista as you soak in the views from your private balcony or terrace.
Swim in the freshwater infinity pool, indulge in traditional Laotian Spa treatments and sample authentic cuisine at the best restaurant in Luang Prabang. After exploring the famed UNESCO World Heritage designated town, experience a magnificent '500 candles dinner' or relax with an exotic cocktail under a starlit sky in the open-air Champa Bar.
Best time to be there
The cooler part of the dry season, November to February is when Laos is at its best, avoiding the torrential rains of the summer months, and the sweltering heat of April and May.
