Due to the size of the country, Madagascar experiences a range of climatic conditions. The highlands and parts of the south west remain fairly dry year round although sharp showers can be experienced in Fort Dauphin area.

This 18,500ha park is located in the North of Madagascar, 40 kilometres south of Diego Suarez.  The park has its own micro-climate with peaks reaching up to 1,475 metres. The name of the park originates from the amber-coloured resin which comes from some of the trees and is used locally by the Malagasy for medicinal purposes. While visiting this magnificent park you will be impressed by the huge bird's nest ferns, strangler figs and cycads, by the waterfalls and lakes, and of course the lemurs. There are many species including the Sanford's Brown Lemur and Crowned Lemur. Take time also to look out for the smaller inhabitants of the park - frogs, lizards, butterflies and the leaf-mimic brookesia chameleon which is just over 2cm long.

Guest Testimonial

Quite simply excellent. If I could say one thing it is that Egypt is the place to go right now, as there were virtually no tourists at some of the sights and that,I should think, is quite rare!
