7 October 2012 - Antananarivo
Arrive into the capital of Madagascar, Antananarivo where you will spend the night.
8 October 2012 - Antananarivo/Fort Dauphin/Mandrare River Camp
After breakfast, transfer to the airport where you will fly to Fort Dauphin. Drive west by 4WD vehicle towards the small town of Ifotaka in the Antandroy Spiny Forest passing through the transitional forests of Andohahela National Park. Accommodation for the next three nights is at Mandrare River Camp.
9 and 10 October 2012 - Mandrare River Camp
Each day enjoy a range of activities. Venture across the river by foot to the Sacred Antandroy forests, look out for lemur and many bird species in this spiny forest. Other activities include learning to use the traditional Antandroy Piletse (slingshot), visiting the giant sand dunes of Lake Anony with a picnic lunch, day and night walks in the gallery forest and seeing a traditional ringa (wrestling) competition.
11 October 2012 - Mandrare River Camp/Manafiafy Lodge
Transfer by road to Manafiafy Beach & Rainforest Lodge via Fort Dauphin. Manafiafy, also known as Sainte Luce, is a beautiful white sandy bay, fringed with forest covered mountains and wildlife rich mangroves.
12 and 13 October 2012 - Manafiafy Lodge
There are many activities available to explore this area. Canoe the mangroves, take an early morning boat trip for wetland birding, day and night walks in the rainforest to see the five species of lemur, snorkelling in the bay and nearby cove, boat trips to the nearby islands for a secluded picnic lunch, or a trip to the local village school are just some of the activities available. It is possible to do whale watching from the observation tower (additional cost).
14 October 2012 - Fort Dauphin/Antananarivo
Drive back to Fort Dauphin for your flight back to Antananarivo where you will spend the night.
15 October 2012 - Antananarivo/Perinet Reserve
This morning you will be driven three hours west from the capital to Perinet and the Andasibe Reserve where you will stay at Vakona Forest Lodge. Enjoy an afternoon visit to the reserve and Lemur Island.
16 October 2012 - Perinet Reserve
Take a visit to the Analamazaotra reserve that protects the largest lemur, the Indri Indri, famous for its eerily haunting calls. There are 11 other species of lemur that live in this area - you may find a troop of grey bamboo lemurs, common brown lemur, Diademed Sifaka or black and white ruffed lemur. The reserve is also home to reptiles, invertebrates and many orchids. A night walk will reveal the nocturnal species in Perinet.
17 October 2012 - Perinet Reserve/Antananarivo
Return to the capital where you will have use of day room before your evening flight.
