The Riviera Maya features more than 161km of Caribbean coastline along the Yucatan Peninsula, yet it offers a lot more besides the allure of the beach. The warm Caribbean waters beckon, and they’re home to manta ray, dolphin and whale shark. But the diving doesn’t stop there. You can take a dip in one of the cenotes, spectacular sinkholes which pepper the area, and were considered sacred by the Maya.
The Mayan ruins and sites can also be explored above the ground. Tulum, Coba and El Rey are among Mexico’s most magnificent, offering unique insights into a lost civilisation stretching back 2,000 years.
