THE HOTEL
A gem among luxury Moroccan hotels, the Sofitel Fès Palais Jamaï is an outstanding example of Moorish and Arabic architecture. This palace, located in the heart of the lively imperial city of Fes, Morocco's spiritual and cultural capital, dates back to 1879.
The breathtaking views over the medina and riads, and patios in the lush Andalucian garden make this hotel a real showstopper. The sense of luxury continues within the rooms and suites, all of which are spacious and sumptuously appointed.
We spent most evenings on the terrace with a cocktail as the sun set. The spectacular views of Fes are accompanied by the echoing sound of the call to prayer.
Morocco is warm and sunny year round. The best time to visit is mid-February to June and September to December. Coastal Morocco is cooled by sea breezes. The peaks of the Atlas Mountains are snow-capped for most of the year.
