Gorongosa National Park is one of Mozambique's flagship conservation areas with a remarkable history; before the onset of civil war in the 1970's, the Park was considered one of Africa's finest. The Park is now seeking to re-establish the wildlife numbers of the past, a project initiated by the Mozambique Government and the Carr Foundation.

Located at the southern end of the Southern end of the Great East African Rift Valley the park is some 4,000 square kilometres.  The park is made up of valleys floors and plateaus.  The focal point of the part is the sacred Mount Gorongosa which stands at 1862 metres.

With the combination of different soil types, seasonal flooding, and various different ecosystems you will get varied wildlife and over 500 species of bird.
