Namibia; 11 Nights

This is a perfect introduction to Namibia, taking in highlights such as the small, charming capital, Windhoek, the beautiful barren landscape of Sossusvlei, the coastal town Swakopmund, mountainous Damaraland - where you can see ancient rock art and meet the Himba people - and Etosha National Park, where you might just spot the 'big five'.

Day 1 - London/Johannesburg
Depart London Heathrow this evening on an overnight flight to Johannesburg.

Day 2 - Johannesburg/Windhoek
Connect in Johannesburg for your onward flight to Windhoek, where you'll be met and transferred to Olive Grove Guesthouse. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 3 - Windhoek/Sossusvlei
Today take a flight to Sossusvlei, where you will be driven to the charming Kulala Desert Lodge.

Day 4 - Sossusvlei
Spend the day exploring Sossusvlei. Marvel at the highest sand dunes in the world, the alien vegetation - such as camelthorn tree - and if you're lucky you may spot some wildlife. The best views of the dunes are at sunrise when the rich colours make for fabulous photo opportunities.

Day 5 - Sossusvlei/Swakopmund
Today fly from Sossusvlei to Swakopmund. This coastal town is surrounded by desert and is home to the splendid Swakopmund Hotel, built in and around the impeccably restored old station building.

Day 6 - Swakopmund
After breakfast choose from the many activities available. Try horseriding in the Namib Desert or play a round of golf on the Rossmund Golf course, one of only four desert courses in the world.

Day 7 - Swakopmund/Damaraland
This morning drive to the airport for your flight to Damaraland - a mountainous wilderness region home to the tongue clicking Damara people. Here you can observe ancient rock art and unique wildlife including the mystical desert-adapted elephant and the last free roaming black desert rhinos in the world. Damaraland Camp is situated on the northern face of the Huab River valley, looking south toward the imposing Brandberg Mountains.

Day 8 - Damaraland
Today, explore one of the best wilderness areas in Namibia by 4x4, on foot or by mountain bike. Although wildlife is not concentrated, the camp is situated where the rare desert elephant roams, alongside gemsbok (Oryx), springbok, ostrich and other hardy desert animals. Rare succulent plants somehow manage to eke out an existence in this harsh countryside.

Day 9 - Damaraland/Etosha National Park
Travel to Etosha National Park, one of the most famous wildlife reserves in Africa, and transfer to the award-winning Ongava Lodge.

Days 10 and 11 - Etosha National Park
Spend the day exploring on foot or in a 4x4. There are also night safaris on offer. The park is known to have 114 species of mammals and 340 bird species, so you're likely to have an eventful day out on safari.

Day 12 - Etosha National Park/Windhoek/Johannesburg/London
This morning, fly from Ongava Airstrip to Windhoek, where you will connect to your return flight to London via Johannesburg.
