Belmond Rio Sagrado, Sacred Valley
Why we like it
- Set on the banks of the Urubamba River in the Sacred Valley of the Incas
- Take a tour with the hotel's head gardener to learn about the unique flora and fauna in the area
- Indulge in traditional treatments in the Spa May Wilka
- Activities on offer include a shaman ceremony, horseriding and rafting
- Excellent base for exploring Mach Picchu
Sample a Pachamancha –dating back to the Inca empire this traditional cooking method uses hot stones in a pit to cook marinated meat and vegetables.
Javier Peralta (our guide in Cusco, Machu Picchu and thereabouts) and Edwin Frisancho Carrasco (driver in same place) were both simply AMAZING! We have been to different parts of the world and have had lots of different guides but these two people were the best we have experience by a mile.
- MG, London

Best time to be there
Being such a geographically diverse country the weather in Peru is determined both by altitude and season. May to October is the best time to travel although the Amazon area is hot and humid throughout the year.
