THE HOTEL
Located right beside the lively Cuzco central square, Hotel Monasterio is a former monastery and national monument dating from 1592. Resplendent with unique features and 'Cusco Baroque' architecture, it was originally built on the site of the Inca Amaru Qhala Palace and, today, combines its monastic origins with the best of colonial style and a touch of Inca Peru.
Just over 100 guest rooms, including 20 deluxe suites of varying sizes, are furnished and decorated in a striking combination of modern and traditional Spanish styles. Beamed ceilings rise above spacious rooms enlivened by painted, Inca-style detailing around the arched doorways. Huge, comfortable beds ensure a restful nights sleep after a day of exploration.
Wonderfully atmospheric, this hotel is an ideal base from which to discover the delights of Cuzco - its doors open to a vibrant scene of old and modern architecture, markets, galleries and restaurants serving 'new Andean' cuisine.
Being such a geographically diverse country the weather in Peru is determined both by altitude and season. May to October is the best time to travel although the Amazon area is hot and humid throughout the year.
