The spectacular Northern Peru is rich in archaeology, history and scenic contrasts. As well as the cold waters of some of the world's most plentiful fishing grounds and the Amazon Rainforest, it is also home to the stark deserts, fertile valleys and mountains that gave birth to several great pre-Inca civilisations.
The principal cities of the Northern Peru - Chiclayo, Trujillo and Chachapoyas - are home to the vast and mysterious citadels, tombs and temples built by the Moche, Lambayeque, Chimu and Chachapoyas cultures. These cultures achieved great sophistication and skill in ceramics, agriculture, architecture, metallurgy and warfare.
