Weather

The driest months in Rwanda are between July and September and from December to January. The rains tend to fall between April and May and then again from October to November. However, trekking for gorillas involves entering the rainforests so you need to be prepared to get wet and muddy most of the year.

Running for almost 100km along the Congolese border Lake Kivu is one of Africa's great lakes.  As the lake has a depth of 480m at its maximum causing the deep blue colours together with the terraced escapements it is also one of Africa's most beautiful. The white sandy shore line is dotted with many small towns and villages with Gisenyi up in the north being the most developed.

Being only a two hour drive from Kigali and a one hour's drive from the Volcanoes National Park and the Virungas Conservation Area it provides the perfect retreat before or after the thrill of a gorilla trek. Many activities can be arranged on the Lake Kivu including canoeing, lake fishing, swimming and boat trips.
