October to May is the best time to visit the Cape. Game viewing is better during the drier months of April to September. The wildflower season is generally from mid August to mid September. The whale watching season runs from June to November.

The St James of Knysna is an ideal base for exploring the Garden Route. The property is an exclusive, owner run country house hotel located in a private three acre landscaped garden, directly on the shores of Knysna Lagoon. The St James of Knysna prides itself on its exclusivity and high standards of service. 

Accommodation is split between The Manor building and the Courtyard building. In total there are 13 luxurious suites with amazing views across Knysna Lagoon or over the immaculate gardens. All of the rooms and suites are equipped with an en suite bathroom, mini bar, tea/coffee making facilities, satellite television, safe, iron and ironing board, direct-dial telephone, bath robes and hairdryer. 

Take a stroll around the peaceful gardens and large Koi pond. There are two swimming pools and croquet is also available. From the private jetty there is the opportunity to go fishing, canoeing and also water-skiing. Sightseeing cruises across the lagoon can also be arranged. Breakfasts and light lunches are served on patios and terraces around the property. For an extra special dining experience drive a short distance to The Boma at Phantom Forest, where new age international cuisine has recently been rewarded by the Wine Society of South Africa. The St James of Knysna is an ideal base for exploring the Garden Route.
