Nestled in the exclusive tree lined suburb of Sandhurst, a stones throw from the busy Sandton district, The Saxon is an international award winning hotel and spa and provides a real 'home-from-home' experience. It was here that after his release from prison, Nelson Mandela edited his autobiography 'Long Walk to Freedom'.
The Saxon has 24 suites, each beautifully furnished in ethnic African colours and with large bay windows overlooking the landscaped gardens and pool area. All suites have large-screen televisions and DVD players with surround sound. Three presidential suites have a separate lounge and dining area and the spectacular Nelson Mandela Platinum Suite, approached via a long, private passage, at the end of which the entrance door opens onto a reception hall. This leads into the enormous lounge and dining room as well as the extremely spacious bedroom with its impressive four-poster bed. The luxuriously appointed bathroom is complete with Jacuzzi and steam room.
Surrounded by calm water and abundant bird life, the Saxon Spa and Studio offers a full menu of spa treatments. The Signature Sound Therapy treatment offers a holistic experience that incorporates Colour therapy for enhanced effectiveness and total relaxation, perfect - especially after a long flight or a few days on safari. Facilities also include a fully-equipped gym. World-class chefs prepare meals to suit every palate.
October to May is the best time to visit the Cape. Game viewing is better during the drier months of April to September. The wildflower season is generally from mid August to mid September. The whale watching season runs from June to November.
