Phinda is not only a luxury destination; it is also a dynamic working model in land management and creative wildlife conservation. Phinda was restocked with lion, rhino, buffalo, elephant, leopard, giraffe and other big game in an operation dubbed "phinda izilwane", return of the wild animals. The reserve today provides an exceptional game and marine experience, freshly refurbished, Mountain Lodge is a great family friendly base from which to explore.

Set within 23,000 hectares of Phinda Private Game Reserve, Mountain Lodge has 25 air-conditioned suites, each with en suite bathrooms, sitting areas with private bar and spectacular viewing decks with plunge pool. Mountain Lodge provides the perfect setting for a family safari; a shaded swimming pool allows a wonderful place to relax during the heat of the day. The guest dining and sitting areas, shaded terrace and bar open onto decks with spectacular views of the Lebombo Mountains and bushveld.

During your stay experience the bush on foot and opt to take an exciting bush walk. Guided by expert rangers, watch out for some of the 400 species of bird life recorded on the reserve. One of the most unspoilt areas of KwaZulu Natal, Maputaland is sparsely populated. Standing just above sea level there are a large number of freshwater and brackish lakes and pans, filled with many species of fish, water birds, crocodiles and hippo. The local inhabitants have developed ingenious traps across the lakes to trap the fish.
