Taru Villas - 42 Lighthouse
Why we like it
- Located in the heart of Galle
- Colonial and full of sophisticated charm
- Nearly everything within Galle is only a 10 minute walk from 42 Lighthouse Street
- With only four rooms, this is a great boutique option, or take the whole villa on an exclusive basis
- Meals are a delight and the chef is more than happy to talk through the options with you – we love the breakfasts here
Watch the sunset over this historic trading port, from the rooftop terrace.
We had an outstanding guide, Mr Upali Guneratne. His expert knowledge about the temples and ancient sites we visited, Sri Lankan history and customs, and the Island’s flora and wildlife made it a memorable experience for us both.

Best time to be there
During our winter months, when the humidity is lower and the temperature more comfortable for sightseeing and exploration. However, the monsoon season of May to September should not be discounted for travel as the whole of Sri Lanka is bursting into lush greenery due to the rainfall showing you a side of this island not everyone sees.
