WILDLIFE, SRI LANKA
Sri Lanka's national parks shelter impressive and diverse flora and fauna. The northern parks of Minneriya and Ritigala fit in well with a tour of the cultural triangle. Most of the parks, however, are found in the south. Wild deer, buffalo, elephant, sloth bears and monkeys are relatively common, and Yala National Park has the highest density of leopard in Asia. An array of birds thrive, with Horton Plains and the wetlands of Bundala being the best places to spot them. Whales and dolphins are frequently seen off the south and northeast coasts. The unusual endemic wildlife found in Sinharaja Forest Reserve includes endangered purple faced langur and rare birds.
Best time to be there
During our winter months, when the humidity is lower and the temperature more comfortable for sightseeing and exploration. However, the monsoon season of May to September should not be discounted for travel as the whole of Sri Lanka is bursting into lush greenery due to the rainfall showing you a side of this island not everyone sees.
