THE HOTEL
A member of 'Relais & Châteaux', Eden Rock has been owned by an English couple, David and Jane Mathews, since 1995. With Jane's personal choice of décor fusing perfectly with St. Barths' French chic, this hideaway has been transformed into a paradise of sophisticated style and is considered one of the finest hotels on the island.
Every detail is superb - from design and décor, to service. Inside the rooms, suites and cottages, the pure white walls hung with colourful works of art are a backdrop for wonderful, contemporary furniture - clean lines and innovative design mixed with tasteful 'craft' pieces. All open out onto superb terraces and gardens, which are relaxing spaces cooled by gentle breezes and affording lovely views.
This hotel really has to be seen, and experienced, to be believed. It's a masterpiece of luxury island living.
Eden Rock offers 33 rooms, suites and villas centred on or around the rocky outcrop or behind the beach. Options vary from Cottages and Contemporary Beach Rooms to Premium Suites and Big Beach Villas. All rooms are beautifully decorated in individual styles, with an occasional quirky twist. Relatively tame is the Corail Classic Suite with a colonial African ambience or Waterlily House with an infinity pool overlooking the ocean. More risqué is the De Haenen Classic Suite offering a private bathroom built into the rock face. Finishing with a flurry is the Greta Garbo Premium Suite boasting a bed lit with star lights in the ceiling. Whichever style you choose, you can be assured of rich fabrics, flashes of vibrant colour and eclectic pieces of art, not to mention standard facilities including air-conditioning, DVD player and balcony. The Villa Rock Star has its own recording studio, Mini Cooper and motorbike for guests to enjoy, whilst Villa Nina offers seven thousand square-feet of space for just two bedrooms, an in-villa art gallery and sumptuous bathrooms tiled in white gold with double cascade showers.
