DAY 2 : Tarangire National Park
This morning visit Ilboru Primary School, for almost a decade A&K has been supporting this primary school. After the visit set off for Tarangire National Park, where open grasslands, the Tarangire River, acacias and ancient baobab trees paint a classical African landscape. Arrive in time for lunch at Sanctuary Swala, your luxurious permanent tented camp for the next two nights, which has its own dipping pool overlooking a watering hole. Spend the afternoon on a game drive with your guide who will help spot and identify the wildlife and plants you see, sharing his in-depth insight and knowledge of habits, habitat and place in the ecosystem. Tarangire is home to the full array of African wildlife including leopard and lion, and is well known for its elephants.

DAY 3 : Tarangire National Park
Set off on a game drive as the sun rises and the animals wake to start their day in the coolness of the early morning. Return to camp in time for lunch which is followed by the opportunity to learn how to cook local delicacies with the camp chef. Later in the afternoon, set off for another game drive as the heat of the day recedes and the animals become active once more.

DAY 4 : Ngorongoro Crater
Set off for the famous Ngorongoro Crater, crossing the Great Rift Valley; there is time to visit the town of Mto wa Mbu and explore the local market where stalls brim with vibrant local produce, before continuing on for a delicious organic lunch at Gibb’s Farm, en route to the crater, a 2,000 ft deep caldera that is a natural amphitheatre to observe a mesmerising microcosm of East African wildlife. Climb up the outer wall passing through dense vegetation as you approach the rim, when a spectacular view of the crater floor appears. Arrive at Sanctuary Crater Camp, a tented camp featuring spacious tents furnished with supremely comfortable beds made up with crisp linen and incorporating en suite bathrooms complete with flushable toilet and hot shower. Each tent has a large veranda, the perfect place to relax and contemplate the spellbinding panorama below. Dinner is served in the mess tent, including homemade bread cooked on site in earth ovens!

DAY 5 : Ngorongoro Crater
Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a full day of game viewing. The crater is home to nearly all the iconic African species including lion, leopard and rhino, and all sorts of birdlife, including flamingos. The notable absentee is giraffe – just too tall and unwieldy to traverse the crater rim! At lunchtime, you’ll glide past the designated (and usually crowded) picnic spot to a leafy glade tucked away in dappled sunlight, where a fully laid-up dining table awaits. Here you’ll be served a delicious gourmet lunch, cooked in situ by the chef and his team from the camp. Later in the afternoon, back on the rim of the crater, meet a Maasai elder at a nearby village, who’ll tell you about the tribe’s traditional, nomadic lifestyle and coexistence with wildlife. Whilst at the village, you’ll be invited to a demonstration of traditional beadwork and crafts. Back at camp that evening, as sundowners are served around the crackling fire, you’ll hear the mesmerising sounds of Maasai songs emerging from the darkness as the villagers arrive at camp and perform traditional dances.

DAY 6 : Serengeti National Park
Today you’ll fly direct to the Serengeti National Park, where you’ll be driven from the airstrip to your camp. After lunch, having settled in, climb aboard the 4x4 for a game drive accompanied by your expert driver/guide. The Serengeti is one of the oldest and least-changed ecosystems on earth as well as home to an extraordinary concentration of wildlife including the big cats – lion, leopard and cheetah. The Serengeti is also a destination for the Great Migration, the constant movement of hundreds of thousands wildebeest and zebra between the Serengeti in the south to the Masai Mara in the north, in search of grass and water as the seasons change. It is an epic spectacle you may witness depending on your choice of departure. In the late afternoon, as the equatorial sun dips towards the horizon, sundowners will be served in the midst of the majestic plains, surrounded by the atmospheric sounds of the savannah.

DAY 7 : Serengeti National Park
Continue to explore the Serengeti with morning and afternoon game drives. On returning to camp in the evening, hopefully having seen the Big Five (lion, leopard, rhino, Cape buffalo and elephant) as well as a whole host of other sightings, there will be a special farewell dinner.
