Why we like it
- Zanzibar's most exclusive private resort
- Just six private villas for an intimate setting
- Dinners are served in the elegant antique dining room
- Exquisite personalised service
- A relaxing retreat after an East African safari
The Mangrove Forest and Dhow Trip includes a leisurely cruise around the mangroves in a traditional Swahili Dhow, before a lesson in traditional line fishing. You can then take your catch back to the hotel where Chef William will prepare it for your dinner that evening!
Joanne Swinton dealt with us and our holiday with endless good humour and patience. Her suggestions were perfect and we all had a magical time. She really knew her "stuff". She even organised a car and driver for our first full day in Dar es Salaam which was a kindness beyond any duty. She arranged for our unaccompanied children to be chaperoned through all the airports, and for my husband and me to be taken care of too.

Located on the peaceful south eastern coast of Zanzibar and set on a flawless beach, The Palms is the ultimate sanctuary for the discerning traveller. The six private villas are beautifully designed, with sumptuous coffee and cream interiors, polished wood floors and billowing curtains creating a unique marriage of colonial grandeur and simple elegance. Each of the stylish villas feature a bedroom, living room and en suite bathroom, with a large furnished veranda. On each veranda a silk-draped four-poster Zanzibar day bed accents a sunken, midnight blue plunge pool with long views over the Indian Ocean.
All the luxurious comforts and amenities of a five star resort are offered here, along with the most personal attention you could desire. The fusion of cultures in Zanzibar is reflected in the exotic cuisine, where blends of exotic spices and flavours are served on the colonnaded terrace of The Plantation House. To work up an appetite, we recommend searching for marine life on the Reef Safari, a visit to the Turtle Rescue Programme or a tour around Stone Town to view the historic Spice Plantations. Alternatively, the Sanctuary Spa offers a variety of treatments in an ocean front setting where you can enjoy an "Après Safari Treatment ©", the perfect tonic for guests arriving from the dusty bumpy roads of the African bush.
