INFORMATION ABOUT TURKEYTurkey has so much to offer: so much history, so much culture, so much contemporary life. It takes highly trained yet experienced guides to pitch it just right; to inform and entertain but not overwhelm. Step forward Melek. After two days with the knowledgeable Istanbul guide our guests were effusive with their praise. 'She quickly tuned to our wavelength,' they told us. 'She judged what we wanted to see (specific parts of the great Bazaar) and didn't want to see (carpets, definitely). By the end of the day she was a friend.'
Melek, with 10 years experience, is one of our experienced senior guides who bring Turkey's prolific attractions to life. She's part of A&K's multi-centre European team that has provided seamless travel across the continent for 25 years, including a concierge rail service - feedback from our clients suggest it's hugely popular - where staff escort you to first class seats and meet you at destination stations.
Along with excellent vehicles and 24-hour emergency contact, our long-established local contacts help us offer exclusive insider angles on the rich cultural heritage and vibrant contemporary life, from tours of classical remains with archaeologists to private Anatolian cooking lessons with leading chefs.
On an Abercrombie & Kent luxury holiday to Turkey you'll discover one of the planet's oldest continually inhabited regions. Mesmerising Istanbul, perched on the spectacular junction of Europe and Asia, offers major league attractions from Topkapi Palace and Hagia Sofia to the Blue Mosque. They sit alongside medieval hammam - you must try a soap massage - and traditional wood houses, juxtaposed with a thriving modern art scene and hip rooftop bars with glorious 360-degree views.
Further south the Mediterranean coast is dotted with superb Greco-Roman remains, including Pergamon and Ephesus, white-walled villages and spectacular beaches like Ölüdenitz. Head inland and you'll reach the Anatolian Plateau where hobbit-like houses nestle into Cappadocia's surreal landscape. A dawn balloon flight over its fantasy-like rock formations will stay with you forever.
You can cruise up the Bosphorus, or sail around the Emerald Coast in a wooden gulet, haggle in a bazaar or smoke a nargile with sun-crinkled locals. Turkey, as we said, has an awful lot of to offer - and with A&K it's all possible.
