Until the Archipelago Los Roques was created a national park in 1972, the 40 named islands and 200 plus small islands in the Caribbean were home to fishermen who lived in the only town on Gran Roque, the largest island. Today, Gran Roque is still the only village in the 2,211 sq km Los Roques National Park.
The islands are not overcrowded and retain their serenity and allure by the fact that the Park Commission has strict regulations prohibiting new buildings and restricts the number of visitors allowed in the archipelago at any one time.
This archipelago is a diver's and snorkeller's paradise and the ideal destination for a truly relaxing holiday in Venezuela.
