The Lost World By Air

Venezuela, 10 Nights

Day 1 - London/Caracas
Depart London with the Iberia flight to Caracas, via Madrid. On arrival you will be met and taken to the Pestana Hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 2 - Caracas/Canaima National Park

Morning transfer to Caracas Metropolitan Airport, where you will meet your experienced pilot-guide who will be accompanying you, and flying you over the next few days of adventure. Board your single engine FAA certified six-seater Cessna 206 for the flight over the Caroni and Paragua rivers and the Guri Dam to Canaima National Park. Canaima lies on the Guayana massif and is one of the oldest geological formations in the world characterised by the fascinating 'tepuis' that so enthralled Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It is also home to lagoons and waterfalls; one such waterfall being Angel Falls, the world's tallest, measuring at 979m high. Afternoon boat trip to El Sapo cascade with option to walk behind the thundering water curtain. Two nights at Waku Lodge, ideally located on the shores of Camaima Lagoon.

Day 3 - Canaima National Park
Morning low altitude flight along the Carrao river and into the Devil's Canyon before opening out to spectacular views of Angel Falls and Auyantepuy, one of the country's largest table mountains. Land near Kavak, a village of the indigenous Pemon community and enjoy a rainforest walk that offers magnificent views of Auyantepuy, a visit to Kavak Cave and the chance to enjoy a swim in the clear waters of one of Canaima's many beautiful lagoons. Afternoon flight back to Canaima.

Day 4 - Canaima National Park/Los Llanos

Morning flight out of Canaima, over the Orinoco river, to Los Llanos. Known as Venezuela's cattle country and where 'llaneros' (cowboys) still chase herds on horseback, Los Llanos is an area of vast, blistering plains and one of the most interesting regions in South America for wildlife and bird watching. Afternoon guided boat safari. Two nights at Hato El Cedral, a 53,000 hectare working cattle ranch.

Day 5 - Los Llanos
At leisure to enjoy wildlife watching excursions by boat or road. Over 350 bird species have been identified in Los Llanos as well as monkeys, deer, anteaters and the world's largest rodent (capybara), snake (anaconda) and American crocodile (the Orinoco caiman).

Day 6 - Los Llanos/Los Roques National Park
Early morning bird watching excursion, before boarding your light aircraft and flying back towards Caracas and on across the Caribbean Sea to Los Roques National Park. Los Roques is an elliptic archipelago enclosing a lagoon and surrounded by islands, islets and cays, all blessed with Caribbean sunshine nearly all year round. Pristine white beaches and clear turquoise seas complement the small number of local posadas and fisherman that inhabit Gran Roque, and island of sandy streets and laid back lifestyle. Three nights at Villa or Posada Caracol.

Days 7 and 8 - Los Roques National Park
At leisure to enjoy the tranquil delights of Los Roques. Available locally are speed boat transfers to neighbouring beach islands and cays. Alternatively private sailing boat charters are also easily arranged and offer excursions to pristine cays such as Krasky and Noronky, the isolated islets of Cayo del Agua, mangroves and turtle sanctuary on Dos Mosquises Island.

Day 9  - Los Roques National Park/Caracas
Departure flight to Caracas with a commercial airliner. Airport assistance and return overnight flight to Madrid and on to London, arriving day 10.

Please be advised that luggage allowance is severely limited to 7-10kgs per person due to the capacity of light aircraft.

At A&K all of our journeys are individually tailored to suit your needs and timescale. However, as a guide, a 9 day journey in Venezuela will cost from £3,960 per person based on two adults sharing with flights from the UK and subject to availability.
