Lake Kariba and Matusadona
In the late 1950s, the Kariba Dam flooded much of the middle Zambezi Valley, creating one of the world's largest man-made lakes: Lake Kariba. Known for its excellent tiger fishing, herds of animals that drink from its waters and its exceptional sunsets, Lake Kariba can be seen either from the comfort of a luxury motor cruiser or from one of the many lodges on its shore.
The valley's prolific game concentrated on the southern shore, where Matusadona National Park was created. Around this shoreline are some excellent safari lodges, offering walks and drives, as well as boat and canoe trips to explore the lake's inlets and creeks. The lake is a superb place to watch the sunset, with the Matusadona Mountains in the background making for an excellent photo opportunity.
One of the Matusadona's greatest features is its bird life with over 240 species having been recorded in the park including a very large population of fish-eagles which are seen near the lake. The bird life is exceptional largely due to the diverse habitation. In the east of the park is the second largest concentration of wild lion in Africa after Ngorongoro Crater and thus walking safaris in these rugged mountains are a constant source of excitement.

Best time to travel
Apr-Jun when the water levels are at their greatest at Victoria Falls and large herds of animals can be seen in Hwange National Park.
The best time to travel is between April and June, there is little to no rain and the Falls are at their fullest. These are the winter months therefore temperatures will only peak at around 20°C, although days are clear and bright.

Our recent awards
Just a short note to thank you for all your efforts in putting together our itinerary for our honeymoon. We had the most utterly fantastic time and we were impressed time and again by the A&K service; all of the transfers happened perfectly and we were looked after from the minute our journey began. We also got a sense that we were staying in places that we would not have found had it not been booked through you. In particular The Elephant Camp, The Hide and Ongava Lodge stand out as the most wonderful places to stay, with exceptional guides and hosts, and where we had the best experiences. It was just wonderful- better than we could have imagined. Thank you again and we will book with A&K in the future (just maybe not again this year!) Best wishes Tom
