Where did your love of travel come from?

My love for travel began while backpacking through South America, a captivating continent of contrasts. The six-month journey took me from the colourful Caribbean streets of Cuba down to the diverse landscapes and lakes of Chile, a ribbon of land bookended by the Pacific Ocean and the Andes. I was also lucky enough to see the colonial architecture in Cartagena, Colombia, venture through the mountain scenery in Peru, home to the spectacular site of Machu Picchu and explore the valleys of Bolivia. Highlights of my trip included; watching the New Year’s Eve fireworks in Valparaíso (the second largest only to Rio de Janeiro), hiking to Laguna 69 at 4,600 metres above sea level in the Peruvian Cordillera Blanca and discovering deserted beaches in Brazil’s trendy southern state, Florianopolis. Spending this amount of time exploring allows you to become immersed in the distinct culture of each country. This eye-opening and awe-inspiring experience makes me want to share the world with our clients.

Top recommended ultra luxury experience?

Working in the luxury travel industry has opened my eyes as to how we can explore new and exciting places. Ultra-luxury travel is a privilege, enabling visits to some of the most remote and untouched landscapes on Earth. Inspiring Expeditions by Geoffrey Kent® offers a real sense of authentic adventure from around-the-world jaunts by private jet to explorations of far-flung destinations by helicopter, yacht, snowmobile or hot-air balloon. The heli-safari on offer at Ol Malo Lodge in Laikipia, Kenya, is the perfect example of this. You can enjoy a bird’s-eye view of sand dunes, crocodile pools, volcanic lakes and salt pans which are completely untouched and uninhabited. This intimate, family-run lodge is made up of only four cottages and a spacious house, the ideal choice for families. All rooms have panoramic views of Mount Kenya and it’s very likely you will spot giraffe, elephant and more from your bed, balcony or bathtub.

Ultimate dining experience?

Last year I visited the sumptuous Four Seasons Hotel George V, one of the most impressive hotels in Paris. I was treated to the ultimate in-room dining experience by one of their top chefs. During the ‘dessert creation demonstration’, we watched in awe as he placed 60 tiny meringue leaves by hand onto our individual grapefruit tartlets. The icing on the cake was the incredible view of the iconic Eiffel Tower from the balcony, as this all took place in the hotel’s honeymoon suite. It is a memory that will live forever but this dining experience should have come as no surprise. This art-deco hotel, just off the Champs-Elysees, is home to three restaurants, with five Michelin stars among them, and is renowned for providing some of the best cuisine in France.

Hotel with the best service?

One of the best is the Relais & Châteaux collection, namely in Latin America. These luxurious properties, which span Colombia to Chile here, give their clients five-star service in terms of food, hospitality and aesthetics, as well as premier experience of the destination. I particularly love Sol y Luna, in Cusco’s Sacred Valley. Authenticity is the keyword when it comes to Relais & Châteaux. The hospitality of its staff is only matched by the beauty of the majestic landscape in this part of the world. It’s wonderful to stay in a hotel rich with a décor of locally crafted artworks and a knowledgeable hotel team who were born and bred in the region. This all adds up to an authentic and insightful experience.

Best kept travel secret?

The crème de la crème of dive sites can be found in the cerulean sea around West Papua in Indonesia. You will find pristine waters rich with manta ray, turtle and schooling fish within an environment of healthy, colourful reefs. One of the best areas for scuba diving is in the Raja Ampat archipelago, located off the northwest tip of Bird's Head Peninsula on the island of New Guinea. Those with dive experience will enjoy the thrill of drift dives as you literally swim over the edge of the Earth. I am also very excited about the launch of cruises in this part of the world by modern-day adventurers, Aqua Expeditions. This opens the region to luxury tourism for the first time, allowing passengers to be the first visitors to step foot on the white-sand beaches of beautiful islands like Pulau Pef, Dayang and Birie for decades. On board, you will find expert guides, exceptional service, a focus on conservation and world-class cuisine created by top chefs. My clients will be the first to hear of new projects from this hidden gem.
