Skeleton Coast Flying Safari

Namibia’s Skeleton Coast is one of the most remarkable natural landscapes on Earth. Our Skeleton Coast flying safari immerses you in its stunning geological formations and unique wildlife. Towering red sand dunes rise from the desert sheltering animals who have adapted over time to survive here. Moving among wildlife, such as the desert elephant, are the nomadic Himba people. Combining flights in light aircraft with land-based 4x4 excursions, you’ll witness all the staggering landscapes of the Skeleton Coast and the remarkable life it contains. From the Eduard Bohlen shipwreck at Conception Bay to the surreal, marooned whalebones, a visit here is utterly unique.

Windhoek - Cape Cross - Huab River Valley

You’ll depart from Windhoek to fly to the Skeleton Coast. The Kuiseb canyon and towering red dunes are spectacular from the air, as is the Eduard Bohlen shipwreck at Conception Bay. As you continue the Cape Cross seal colony will greet you, and there’s a stop for a light picnic lunch near the beach. Afterwards, your flight reveals the phenomenal lunar landscape of the Ugab, before it lands at Kuidas camp in the Huab River Valley.

Huab River - Hoarusib Valley

Explore the Huab River’s colourful sandstone formations with your guide and discover the Welwitschia plant, which can grow for 2,000 years. A light aircraft takes you over the shipwrecks of the Skeleton Coast and drops you at the spectacular roaring dunes. Here the beach is bedecked with multicoloured pebbles and bleached whale bones. Back to your camp to enjoy the sunset’s changing moods.

Hoarusib Valley - Hartmann Valley

We’ll drive you through the Hoarusib Valley to a settlement of the nomadic Himba people, staying alert for desert-dwelling elephant en route. Boarding your aircraft you’ll enjoy a scenic coastal flight to the Kunene River, near Namibia’s border with Angola. We’ll stop for a picnic among the shipwrecks and old sailing vessels that scatter the beach before reaching Hartmann Valley’s mountains and dunes.

Kunene River - Windhoek

An early morning boat trip on the Kunene River takes you through scenic desert landscape. There is abundant birdlife here and maybe even the occasional crocodile gliding by. Birds vary from aquatic species on the perennial waters, to endemic desert varieties in the dense riverside vegetation. After a delicious farewell lunch, you’ll fly back to Windhoek, arriving in the late afternoon.
