Highlights

Exploring Nyerere National Park

Nyerere National Park is the second largest game reserve on the African continent. The calls of the wild are never far away when you’re completely immersed in its raw natural beauty. Spend three nights on a fly-camping adventure, scanning the grassland and tracking game on foot. Those intrepid enough can experience a sleep out like no other, lulled to sleep by the sounds of the African bush.

Arrival in Nyerere National Park

Welcome to Nyerere National Park, Africa’s largest protected reserve with chock-a-block with remarkable wildlife. With around 21,000 square miles of grassland, acacia savannah and ox-bow lakes, its huge landscapes offer dollops of exciting game viewing opportunities. On game drives, enjoy huge densities of wildlife that remain undisturbed. Keep a look out for the elusive wild dog as well as healthy concentrations of lion and elephant. Hop on a boat and you’ll be treated to wallowing hippo and swarming crocodile in the glassy lakes.

Fly-camping adventure

If you consider yourself highly adventurous, swap your camp for a simple net tent and sleep out under the stars. As the sun sets and the still dark sets in, gather around the log fire and tune into the sounds of the African bush – this could be the grunts of a hippo or the roar of a lion rolling in from the distance. It may not be for the faint-hearted but it’s a true wilderness experience and an unforgettable one at that.

A walk on the wild side

This is your chance to explore on foot, slowing the pace down to lap up your surroundings. A walking safari means you can enjoy the finer details, like lingering over animal tracks and getting close to smaller but no less fascinating wildlife. Head out with an old-hand safari expert, who can interpret animal marks, name tiny insects burrowing in the ground as well as any endemic bush, tree or shrub you might find.
