The legendary martial art of kung fu can be traced back to the 12th century Zhou dynasty, perhaps even earlier. Passed down from early Chinese emperors, it’s a tradition that requires total mental focus, self-discipline and huge muscular co-ordination.
You can watch one of the best kung fu shows, The Legend of Kung Fu, in Beijing’s Red Theatre. Performed by China’s leading arts producers, China Creation International Performing Arts Co. (CHC), expect a finely tuned display.
The show follows a boy whose mother leaves him alone at a temple so that he can one day become a Kung Fu master. You’ll follow the trials and tribulations of a young monk told through 70 minutes of high-energy kung fu, ballet, music and acrobatics. It’s all the more dramatic with a backdrop of intricately designed props and effective lighting. CHC invites the crème de la crème of Chinese directors and kung fu practitioners, so expect an impressive display.
