Adriatic Voyage: Croatia, Montenegro & Greece 2024
Arrive Venice, Italy
Arrive in Venice, Italy’s enchanting floating city with its iconic architecture and gondola-dotted canals. This afternoon, transfer to your luxury expedition small ship and join your fellow guests for an evening welcome briefing.
Split, Croatia
Get to know your expedition team this morning before arriving at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Split. Explore the Old Town, including the palace of the Roman emperor Diocletian, which offer some of the very best Roman ruins found in the Adriatic. Add an optional excursion to nearby Trogir, dating back to the third century BC, or stop to see majestic Kamerlengo Castle. Foodies can combine the Split excursion with a market visit to sample the local delicacies. Return to the ship for the captain’s welcome dinner.
Dubrovnik, Croatia
Your luxury ship returns to Croatia for a day in Dubrovnik. Its medieval buildings and imposing defensive walls rank it among the most iconic cities in Europe. With so much to experience, there are a variety of options on offer. You can choose from a guided walk to view the medieval monuments. This can be combined with an expedition into the countryside, complete with a winery visit and fresh lunch at a local farm. Food lovers can sample local delicacies, on a culinary excursion to the village of Orasac and the city of Ston. The more active can opt for a kayaking tour, visit to Lokrum Island or bike ride through the Konavle Valley.
Kotor, Montenegro
Cruise to Kotor and join your expedition team to view the well-preserved Roman buildings. Visit a 17th-century palace, that now houses a Maritime Museum, and a cathedral built in 1166. You can opt for a full day exploring Kotor along with a boat excursion to Perast, a finely preserved Baroque city. Alternately, experience the Bay of Kotor on a speedboat ride and beach break, with the option to swim the sapphire-like Blue Cave. You can also go by boat to Gospa od Skrpjela (translated as Our Lady of the Rock) to view its church which features artworks by local master Tripo Kokolja. Return to your luxury ship for cocktails.
Corfu, Greece
Experience Corfu’s landmark sights alongside your expedition team, with a visit to the Esplanade, the Town Hall and Church of Saint Spyridon. Another option is a visit to the Achilleion Palace one of the most renowned royal villas in Europe. Foodies can visit a 200-year-old market, a tavern specialising in bourdetto (casserole-like local dish) or sample the unique kumquat liqueur. You can also take part in a Greek cooking lesson in a beautiful villa at Kommeno Bay. More active guests can choose an off-road mountain bike adventure to a secluded village, complete with a pit-stop at a local taverna.
Cephalonia
Cephalonia is an island known for its green landscapes, with mountains that rise above crystalline blue waters. Join your expedition team for a visit to the monastery named for St Gerasimos. Pair this trip with an excursion with visits to the picturesque villages of Sami and Assos or a trip to the magical underground lake at Melissani, lit with dazzling colour when the sun crests overhead. Active explorers can set out on a guided sea kayak stopping for a swim at Emplisi Beach or choose a guided hike across the island, from Fiscardo and taking in a lighthouse, church and beaches.
Itea
Today, you can explore Itea, from the Sanctuary of Apollo to the Treasury of Athens. Or you can take a drive to the monastery at Ossios Loukas, a Byzantine church with more medieval mosaics intact than any other church in Greece. You can then visit Delphi for views of the olive-tree-dotted valley and boat-building town of Galaxidi. Visit an apiary and learn more about beekeeping. Later in the day you transit the Corinth Canal, the bridge joining the Ionian and Aegean seas. Most cruise ships are too broad to enter this century-old canal, but your expedition small ship handles it comfortably, cruising past the near vertical rock walls with room to spare.
Depart Athens
Bid farewell to your expedition team and crew as you disembark in Athens this morning. Continue on your post-tour extension to Thessaloniki or transfer to the airport for your return flight home.
