The world-renowned heart of French skiing
Val d’Isere and the Espace Killy ski area are often preceded by reputation. Blending village atmosphere, acres of downhill to play with and an après-ski scene ‘done properly’, it’s fair to say the reputation is well deserved. Being able to place beginner skiers up high at the top of the Solaise lift means that Val d’Isere is not just for the veterans and is ready to welcome you to the ideal winter getaway.
Linked with the resort of Tignes to form the formidable ski area of L’Espace Killy, named after the equally formidable 1963 three times French Olympic gold medal winner, Jean-Claude Killy, Val d’Isere is a ‘must-see’ and ‘must-ski’ resort.
The high altitude of L’Espace Killy and the sheer size of the area has led to it becoming affectionately known as 'le plus bel espace de ski au monde' - translating literally as 'the most beautiful ski area in the world'. With over 300 km of groomed pistes and a magnitude of off-piste powder, Val d’Isere boasts one of the longest winter seasons of the Alps with guaranteed snow covering from end of November through to the end of April.
Val d’Isere’s nightlife begins with proportions of après ski that will leave you spoilt for choice. From lively bars positioned in the middle of the pistes to the funky venues of Dick’s Tea Bar and Cafe Face located nearer the town. The entertainment ranges from the simple to the sophisticated, the classic to the crazy and for those who prefer the quieter life there are a number of piano bars and cocktail lounges to ensure you a slice of the evening pie!
