Discover Florence & Tuscany’s food & wine

Italy’s stunning countryside, coastline and culture are second only to its food, which is adored the world over. Tuscany’s regional specialities are no exception, famed for their simplicity and use of seasonal produce. Chianti Classico, produced in the hill vineyards between Florence and Siena, is the perfect accompaniment to the region’s distinctive flavours. Explore the architectural and gastronomic delights of renaissance Florence and Pisa. Learn some culinary secrets with your own private cookery lessons. Enjoy guided vineyards tours and exclusive wine tastings. Sample some of Tuscany’s finest extra virgin olive oils – on an Italian gourmet adventure to remember.

UK – Florence

Upon arrival in Florence, you will be met by your private driver and transferred to the luxury Hotel Savoy, a Rocco Forte Hotel. Once you have settled in, set out on a walking tour with your guide. Stroll through the city admiring its piazzas, churches and palaces, stopping at the Galleria dell'Accademia to see Michelangelo's David. Visit the Duomo and climb the 464 steps for a breath-taking view over the city. Finish with a visit to the Church of San Lorenzo and Medici chapels, then be sure to visit one of Florence’s famous gelato shops. 

Florence

Today experience the vibrant sights and sounds of a local food market with a guided tour.  Enjoy a private hands-on cooking lesson tailored to your level of ability, tastes and interests. Learn some of the secrets of the local and national cuisine. This afternoon, pre-book a visit to the Uffizi Gallery, which is housed in the Palazzo degli Uffizi, originally designed for the Uffizi of the Medici Grand Duke Cosimo. Later, the Medici decided to house their art collection here and it opened as Europe’s first modern museum in 1591. 

Florence and Pisa

Today is at leisure you may choose to drive to Pisa and see the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Situated in the Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles), the campanile is a unique architectural masterpiece. Alternatively, let us arrange a private guide to show you Florence’s many shops and boutiques. Drawing on a rich tradition of skilled craftsmanship, there’s ample opportunity to discover high fashion and unique gifts and souvenirs. Following a busy day, your tour consultant can make dinner recommendations for traditional Tuscan food. 

Chianti

Heading out from Castello del Nero with your driver/guide, venture into the heart of the Chianti Classico production area. Here you can visit Castello della Paneratta, who have been winemakers since 1856. Take a guided tour of the wine cellars and estate vineyards then enjoy a wine tasting. Back at the hotel, sample some of Tuscany’s finest extra virgin olive oils from the 12th-century cellar. 

Val d’Orcia

Today, on your private cycle tour, take in the views of Val d’Orcia and its beautiful landscape encircling medieval villages, cypress groves and rolling hills. Enjoy a walk in the unspoilt countryside. From here, head back to Castello del Nero where a wealth of experiences can be arranged. Choices range from gelato making with master maker, Sergio Dondoli to the more unusual stargazing and pottery classes. Take part in a complimentary yoga class or relax in the spa following a workout, all with an idyllic vista through the floor-to-ceiling windows. 

Siena

This morning, visit the intimate medieval walled city of Siena, with its captivating architecture. The city centre’s unique Piazza del Campo is considered as one of the finest main squares in Italy. It also becomes the racetrack for the Palio horse race twice a year.  Climb the Torre del Mangia and visit Duomo with the unforgettable frescoes in the Piccolomini Library. Return to the hotel to enjoy a cooking class where you’ll learn to cook classic Italian ingredients – guided by executive chef, Giovanni Luca Di Pirro. 

Florence – UK

After breakfast, it’s time to prepare to bid farewell to tranquil Tuscany as you depart to return home to the UK. If you want to explore further, you have the option to extend your stay by adding another city to your itinerary – or booking a longer stay at Castello del Nero.
