Highlights

A northern discovery

Industrial heritage, iconic landscapes and boutique shops – it's no wonder Northern England is on top. Discover true Yorkshire life as a local, with a guide to take you across the moors, with hidden trails and legendary tales. Explore Snowdonia National Park and the quaint villages surrounding the Lake District, not forgetting to visit the birthplace of the famous sticky toffee pudding. Finally, indulge in some retail therapy at Chester’s famous medieval half-timbered arcades called ‘The Rows’.

Arrive Chester

Begin your journey in the beautiful and historic city of Chester. Founded by the Romans, this is the only town in England where you can enjoy a walk along the city walls for a complete circuit of the city, the whole route having been preserved. It also has the oldest racecourse and largest Roman Amphitheatre in Britain.

Chester

Continue to explore Chester, with a visit to the colourful sandstone cathedral, and browse along the medieval half-timbered shopping arcades called ‘The Rows’. There is a huge variety on offer with the shops, from boutique fashion to antiques, set against a vibrant café culture where outdoor dining and people watching go hand-in-hand.

Snowdonia National Park

Enjoy a day-trip from Chester to Snowdonia National Park, only a short drive away, where a private guide will show you the iconic sights. Renowned for its mountains, woodlands and valleys, it’s the perfect place for some fresh air after your jaunt around the city. Drive through the Nant Ffancon pass to the crystal-clear waters of the lakes and keep an eye out for Dinas Emry – the famous Welsh dragon who lies sleeping.

Chester – Lake District

Depart Chester and meet your new guide in Cartmel, a village full of cobbled pavements, traditional inns and delightful streamside walks. The home of sticky toffee and the birthplace of the classic pud, you can find many sweet delights down each of the streets. Next, enjoy a guided tour of Levens Hall, an Elizabethan Mansion with topiary gardens, before settling down in your hotel in Windermere.

Lake District

Time to discover the unique beauty of the Lake District – the mountains, valleys and lakes were formed during the Ice Age. Enjoy a relaxing private cruise or alternatively, the more active may wish to spend some time walking the many pathways and admiring the views. Return to relax at your lakeside accommodation.

Lake District

Continue to explore the Lake District at leisure. We recommend visiting the northern lakes. With no motorboats, they are a great place to swim, kayak, canoe, paddleboard, or simply enjoy a peaceful shore walk. Be on the lookout for red squirrels on your journey, as they are known to love the coniferous habitat around Loweswater.

Lake District – York

Return to the city life and discover York’s charming Old Town for a morning guided tour. You will see the famous Shambles and learn more about York’s past at the Jorvik Viking Centre, built on the site of the well-preserved original Viking settlement that archaeologists found in the 1970s.  In the afternoon, visit Castle Howard, an 18th-century mansion in the hills east of York. You may recognise it from the television drama ‘Brideshead Revisited’.

Depart the Yorkshire Moors

For your final day, meet your local guide out in the wilderness of the moors and learn about the myths and legends, both history and folklore. Allow them to take you on lesser known trails so you can truly discover Yorkshire as a local. Take as long as you want exploring this iconic landscape which has inspired famous writers and artists – we completely understand that you won’t want to leave.
