Highlights

Highlights of the Rockies

Immerse in the beauty of the Rocky Mountains on this 8-day self-drive adventure - perhaps the classic Canadian Rockies holiday. You'll trace the spine of the Rockies along the Icefield Parkway as you cruise through jagged peaks studded with a myriad glaciers and lakes. You'll explore Banff, Jasper and Lake Louise at your own pace. We recommend boarding the Ice Explorer to visit the Columbia Icefield, rafting the Athabasca River, kayaking on Lake Louise and visiting the Cave & Basin National Historic Site in Banff.

UK - Calgary

Welcome to the Stampede City, cosmopolitan Calgary. One of our local team will greet you on arrival at the airport and drive you to Hotel Le Germain Calgary. Relax, refresh and unwind after your flight, and perhaps enjoy dinner in one of downtown's skyline restaurants.

Calgary - Banff

Your comfortable hire car awaits you. An early start is a good idea to appreciate the scenery in the morning light. We recommend the 1A Highway, a slightly longer but much more atmospheric route than the Trans-Canada Highway. The Moose Hotel & Suites sits right in the heart of downtown Banff, surrounded by shopping, cafes, nightlife and museums.

Banff

You have today free to explore as you wish. We recommend a trip to the Cave and Basin National Historic Site. Here you can learn how these spectacular hot springs in a natural cave led to the foundation of Canada's first ever National Park. Take a leisurely stroll to the viewing point, enjoy the sights, and capture plenty of photos.

Banff - Jasper

A drive along the Icefields Parkway is a must on any Canadian Rockies holiday. It's a never-ending procession of glaciers, mammoth mountains, jagged peaks and emerald lakes. At Johnston Canyon, a paved footpath leads to tumbling falls. At Columbia Icefield, the Ice Explorer, a massive all-terrain vehicle, makes a spectacular entrance to the glacier. Just before you arrive in the scenic mountain town of Jasper, admire the mighty Athabasca Falls.

Jasper

After yesterday's epic road trip, we recommend exploring Jasper and enjoying the fresh mountain air. You might want to take the Jasper SkyTram, or capture your own shots of the much-photographed Maligne Lake. We recommend riding a raft on the Athabasca River, a gentle white-water cruise that's a great way to appreciate the beauties of Jasper National Park.

Jasper - Lake Louise

Sweep back along the Icefields Parkway to the jewel of the Rockies, Lake Louise. The most famous glacial lake in the Canadian Rockies, this is also one of the most beautiful in the western hemisphere. Named for Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, one of Queen Victoria's daughters, it stands 1,730 metres above sea level, fringed with pines and peaks.

Lake Louise

The beauty and fresh mountain air of Lake Louise make a day here an essential part of any Canadian Rockies vacation. A network of trails suitable for all fitness levels weaves and wends around the mountains and the lake. A canoe or kayak makes an adventurous way to explore the lake. Go early to capture the best reflections for your photographs.

Lake Louise - UK

Leaving Lake Louise, you'll descend through the foothills of the Rockies back to the skyscrapers and contemporary buzz of Calgary. Here you'll drop off your hire car at the airport, bid the Canadian Rockies farewell, and board your flight back to the UK.
