Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and then meet your local guide and fellow hikers for your full day of adventure. Driving from the west coast, it will take just over an hour to reach the northeast coast of Maui. This is hiking heaven and where your experience begins.
After an initial start on the world-famous Hana Highway, you will reach your trail. From this trailhead, it’s time to start hiking into the lush Hawaiian rainforest. The path begins as a dirt-packed road but soon you will be going off-road across uneven terrain and up and down slopes.
You can take this hiking at a moderate pace with stops along the way and then you can learn the role of the rainforest in the history of the island. Your route will generally follow stream beds, leading you to various waterfalls with natural swimming ponds underneath them. Here, you will have the opportunity to swim in the exhilarating natural waters and, for the more adventurous, climb volcanic shelves and jump into the pool from about four metres high.
Enjoy a healthy picnic lunch around midday with your fellow trekkers, before hiking back to the trailhead and your transportation. Depending on traffic and stops, you should be back at your resort after 15.00 with the rest of the day at your leisure.
