UK - Atlanta

Welcome to Atlanta: the vibrant gateway to the Deep South. Once you’ve collected your hire car, head to Loews Atlanta and check in. The city has a tumultuous past. Learn about the Civil Rights Movement in the Sweet Auburn district or visit the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. It’s also home to the state-of-the-art Georgia Aquarium, as well as top attractions like World of Coca-Cola. Later, head to Underground Atlanta for a great selection of food and entertainment.

Birmingham

Today you’ll cross the Georgia/Alabama state border on your way to Birmingham, where you’ll find The Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame and Carver Theatre. Why not let us arrange a guided tour and immerse yourself in the rich heritage of Alabama's jazz history. The Carver Theatre is where jazz legends like Duke Ellington and Lionel Hampton once played, and local jazz artists and comedians continue to perform here. Your home for the night is the Grand Bohemian Hotel Mountain Brook.

Muscle Shoals

It’s time to hit the four musical cities in northwest Alabama: Florence, Tuscumbia, Sheffield and Muscle Shoals. This fascinating area has been a rock and soul hotbed since the early 1960s. The legendary FAME recording studio churned out hits by Etta James, Percy Sledge, Aretha Franklin and Wilson Pickett. Stay overnight at the Marriott Shoals Hotel and Spa in Muscle Shoals.

Memphis

Drive along Tennessee backroads and the Natchez Trace Parkway towards Tupelo. Here you can visit the humble two-room birthplace of Elvis Presley, before continuing to Oxford and the home of Nobel Prize-winning author William Faulkner. After a spot of lunch in the atmospheric town square, continue to Memphis. Home of the blues and birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll, the city offers major musical attractions like Sun Studio, Stax, and of course, Graceland. Head to Beale Street for some late-night blues.

Nashville

Stop for lunch at the Old Country Store in Jackson en route to Nashville. This old-school ice cream parlour offers a Southern-style buffet. In Nashville you’ll stay at the trendy Loews Vanderbilt for three nights. Highlights include the Country Music Hall of Fame, RCA Studio B and the Ryman Auditorium. Every evening, live music spills from Lower Broadway’s honky tonk doorways. Grab a drink and enjoy the show at a friendly bar like Tootsie’s; you'll soon be making new friends.

Smoky Mountains

You’ll head to Knoxville today, but squeeze in a trip to the Museum of Appalachia in Norris en route. In Knoxville, Volunteer Landing on the Tennessee River is a great place for lunch, before the Cradle of Country Music tour around the old city. Your home for the next two nights is the Lodge at Buckberry Creek. Here you can hike, cycle or ride a horse in the Smokies, America’s most visited national park. Dolly Parton's Dollywood is also nearby.

Atlanta - UK

Finish your time in the deep south with a drive along the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains to Chattanooga. There’s lots to fit in before your flight home. You can visit the Tennessee Aquarium, spend time on Lookout Mountain, ride the Incline Railway or explore Point Park, Ruby Falls and Rock City Gardens. The shopping at Warehouse Row is great too. Finally, head south to Atlanta, for your flight home.
