Upon arrival in Rio de Janeiro–Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport, you’ll be met by our airport staff and taken to your hotel to relax and explore at your own pace for the rest of the day. Enjoy the heat and the views of the harbour with a poolside drink, treating that jet lag and anticipating the time ahead.
Enjoy a half-day panoramic tour of the marvellous Rio de Janeiro city. Enjoy a brief tour of the city with your A&K guide, a private vehicle and driver. Your guide will customise the stops along the way to suite your interests. Walk through a local street market, drive by the Maracanã stadium and a visit to the new Porto Maravilha Area. On this tour, you’ll be sure to see a side Rio that appeals to you.
Take your time and discover the best that Rio offers. From Christ the Redeemer to Sugar Loaf Mountain to the Ipanema beach, there’s plenty of local history and famous sightseeing opportunities to jump into. You could even explore Tijuca, an urban rainforest district where you can find shopping malls, eateries and nightclubs.
Hop into your vehicle with your A&K Driver and head down the emerald coast towards the cultural port town of Paraty today. The drive will take you through Serra de Bocaina National Park, a region of incredible biodiversity. It may be worth stopping half way to look out for sloth, monkey, big cats and other examples of the extraordinary wildlife in this country.
Spend your time as you choose in this historic town. You can check out the local museums and learn about the Portuguese colonisation of the town and how their discovery of gold deposits influenced its growth. From the Pousada Do Sandi, you’re also close to the harbour, the beach and a huge choice of local restaurants.
Spend your last day in Paraty absorbing this unique paradise. Take a tour of the region’s waterfalls, a white-water rafting trip or visit Casa da Aventura “Adventure House” to find other exhilarating ways to spend your time here. Alternatively, you might want to enjoy another day by the sea – learning to surf or cycling in the warm breeze.
Say goodbye to Paraty’s beaches, bars and any friends you’ve made in this friendly town, and head up the coast to Rio’s international airport to fly to the old capital of Salvador. Head out into town to explore or save your energy for tomorrow, as the Fera Palace is a comfortable place to relax as well as being an extremely charming Art Deco building.
Explore the local markets and cuisine. Through the centuries, Salvador's São Joaquim market has provided an essential link to the farming hinterland. It was here the sugar cane and tobacco came to be exported. Ever bustling and bordering on the chaotic, today the market still sells a myriad of fascinating items. Wander among the fruits and vegetables, sacred herbs and religious artefacts of the Candomblé, and try the famous moqueca dish, which you can find in most local city restaurants.
The morning is for you to either explore or relax before heading to a capoeira workshop. Capoeira, now classified as Brazilian National Cultural Heritage, is a martial art which originally came from African slaves, who had to disguise their practice as dance. Meet with the capoeira group leaders, learn about the history and philosophy, try your hand at the instruments and learn the basic movements. This visit offers insight into a vital aspect of Afro-Brazilian history and identity.
Head out on the Coconut Highway to Praia do Forte, a fishing village 80 kilometres north of Salvador, home to the best beaches in Bahia. The drive north takes you through white sands and tropical restinga forests as you approach Praia do Forte. Visit the ruins of the 16th-century Garcia D´Ávila castle, once the home of the largest landowner in the New World. After lunch in Praia do Forte, visit one of Brazil´s most successful ecological programs, the Projecto Tamar (sea turtle preservation project).
You have one of the world’s best beaches to spend the next two days of your holiday on. White sands and clear water – what else could you possibly want? Here, the waters are packed with fish you don’t need snorkelling equipment to see them, the bars are friendly and always ready to welcome you in, and you can always go back to the Projecto Tamar if you’ve fallen in love with those majestic creatures. That’s if you can tear yourself away from the hotel’s magnificent pool.
If you aren’t one to spend more than a day lounging in the sun, check out some of the activities in the area. You’re spoiled for choice between horse riding, paragliding, boat rides, meditation courses and local tours. If you want to fit another daytrip in then you’re situated close to Sapiranga Ecological Reserve where you can explore by quadbike, bicycle or foot to catch your last glimpses of the incredible wildlife of Brazil.
After breakfast at the hotel, catch up on your adventures by the beach or by the pool before your transfer to the airport in time for your return flight to the UK. If you refrain from extending your stay, that is.
