Highlights of Ecuador

From its famous UNESCO-protected capital high in the Andes, to the extraordinary Galapagos Islands, now is the time to explore Ecuador. You’ll experience many of the highlights of Ecuador, on this itinerary. Places like Quito, with its historic old town and the ancient market town of Otavalo, famous throughout the Andes for its handicrafts. Then it’s off to the utterly unique Galapagos islands. Famed for their fantastic bio-diveristy, they helped Darwin form many of his theories about evolution. You’ll explore the iconic islands and their wildlife in depth on this Galapagos trip

UK - Quito

Fly to Ecuador's capital city up high, taking advantage of an overnight flight via Bogota in Colombia.

Quito, one of the world's highest capital, is perched just 12 miles north of the middle of the world high in the Andes. A UNESCO protected city, Quito boasts the best-preserved and least altered historic centre in Latin America. Buzzing with colourfully clad women, its central plaza offers an exotic introduction to the country. In the evening, enjoy sophisticated nightlife and a vibrant culinary scene, easily accessible from your comfortable hotel.

Unearth the fabulous churches and cobbled streets of the city on a guided city tour. Quito’s fascinating old town houses colonial monuments and architectural treasures, including museums, art-filled churches and Baroque architecture. Delight in cobbled streets filled with small boutiques and hidden craft shops. A trip to the top of Panecillo Hill offers immense views of the city and surrounding mountains.

Today you’ll visit the ancient market town of Otavalo. The bustling craft market here is thousands of years old and famous throughout the Andes for its crafts, textiles and tapestries. There is also a food market, which has grown to be the largest indigenous market in Latin America. Every day the locals come down from their farms in the mountains to sell their fresh produce.

Quito - Galapagos

You leave Quito today and take the short flight to the Galapagos islands. Here you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel for the next four nights.

Quito - Galapagos

Explore these unique islands and discover the inspiration behind Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. Every day offers a different island, bay or cove to explore and new species to discover. Watch blue-footed boobies prance around statuesque rocks, or snorkel with sea-lions and myriad colourful fish. You can explore the moon-like landscapes and sumptuous sandy beaches. On some you can easily confuse the numerous iguanas for rocks scattering the sand.

Baltra - Guayaquil

All adventures must come to an end. As you take to the air to fly back to the mainland, your head will be full of the captivating mysteries of your Galapagos trip. You’ll fly to Guayaquil for your last Ecuadorian dinner before preparing for your flight home.

It’s time to head to Guayaquil airport and board your flight back to the UK. Alternatively, you could extend your stay and explore the magical, ancient Inca lands of neighbouring Peru.

Guayaquil - UK

Arrive back in the UK early this morning.
