Visiting the Galápagos in January

Marine iguana

Visit Española Island to see land birds building their nests and marine iguana displaying their bright colours. You'll also be in with a chance of seeing sea turtle laying their eggs on shore.

January is the beginning of the rainy season in the Galápagos, with both water and air temperatures rising and staying warm until June. This is an ideal time for snorkelling.

Discover the Galápagos Islands with A&K

The Galápagos Islands offer a wildlife experience like nowhere else on Earth. A cruise holiday here will bring you face-to-face with incredible wildlife, including a number of endemic species. Only here will you see the Galápagos penguin, flightless cormorant, marine iguana and the remarkable giant tortoise. Furthermore, a quarter of the nearshore fish, half of the plant species and almost all of the reptiles can not be found anywhere else on the planet.

Your accommodation will usually be onboard an expedition ship, with excursions to the islands via panga - an inflatable rubber craft. However, there are a growing number of properties on the larger islands, each offering superb accommodation and guest facilities. Accompanied by an expert naturalist guide, you'll explore the islands and their inhabitants, getting up close with many of the fascinating and inquisitive animals. You'll also be able to pick up a snorkel and experience the colourful underwater world that surrounds the archipelago, home to playful sea lion, dolphin, shark and sunken volcanic craters.

Our Galápagos specialists will create a bespoke wildlife cruise that allows you to explore the islands at your own pace. Take a look at some of our favourite Galápagos Island holidays and tours above, or contact the team to start planning your trip.
