Best time to be there

Bhutan offers warm days and cool nights all year round. October and November are arguably the best months, when the monsoon has passed and the skies are clear for mountain photography. The spring months of March, April and May are best for the flora, but it can be stormy as the monsoon builds up for July-September.

NEED TO KNOW

  • Amankora Paro is situated 2,250 metres above sea level and, on clear mornings, affords uninterrupted views of Mount Jumolhari, the home of the Gods of the Kingdom in the Clouds
  • Housed in a lime-washed stone pavilion, the living and dining rooms offer incredible views and a selection of Western and Indian food
  • The spa at Amankora Paro includes a sauna, steam room, five treatment rooms with hot stone baths, changing rooms and a glass-walled yoga suite
  • Other facilities and activities include bars and lounges, a library, archery, fishing, trekking, golf and white water rafting, as well as excursions, for instance to the 17th century ruins of Drukyel Dzong

THE HOTEL
Amankora incorporates a series of lodges, all unique and sympathetically balanced with their environment. Together, the lodges create a circular pilgrimage through Bhutan's breathtakingly spectacular central and western valleys.

Amankora Paro displays a mix of rustic and contemporary design throughout the main lodge and six dwellings  - each dwelling is home to four suites, two on the ground floor and two on the upper floor.

The 24 suites are similar in design featuring natural rammed-earth walls, gently sloping roofs and wood-panelled interiors with a king-size bed, a traditional bukhari (wood-burning stove) and a large terrazzo-clad bath.

Guest Testimonial

First experience with A&K. Intended to ask various travel companies for quotes but Vicky (Agnew) was so good with her suggestions that we did not seek alternative quotations the suggested itinerary was excellent and helped us decide on a balanced and interesting holiday.
