weather

In a country as geographically diverse as Bolivia, local weather patterns vary greatly, however for most people the climate is generally cooler than they expect. In the highlands, the dry season is between May and October. In La Paz and Sucre, temperatures during the day are a pleasant 20º C. Uyuni and Potosi however, can be cold in the middle of the day, and temperatures drop below freezing at night. The Amazon average daytime temperature is 30-32º C with tropical rains on a daily basis (which increase in the wet season), while nights can cool down to 20º C.

Bolivia has in the past had its fair share of political turmoil and even today infrastructure can sometimes be affected by occasional strikes by the mostly indigenous population. It remains a simple country with considerably less polished facilities on offer than its neighbours in Chile and Peru. However, those choose to go are rarely disappointed. Rather, it is hard to find many who are left unmoved by the magic, warmth and simple charm of South America's Andean jewel.

A holiday in Bolivia with Abercrombie & Kent takes you to the heart of this beautiful and complex country, for a fascinating travel experience.

Bolivia's geographic location is such that it can claim to be one of the most diverse nations in Latin America. It is a country where the lofty Andes fall away to the lowland majestic jungle. To the east lies the Amazon, an area of the world whose magnificence needs no introduction. To the west lie the Andean mountains, rich in culture and beauty. Lake Titicaca, the world's highest lake is certainly a highlight of any holiday in Bolivia. With its alluring blue water and owing to its massive size, you need to be reminded that it is a lake and not a beautiful calm ocean. Within the lake, ancient Inca islands, namely the Island of the Sun and the Moon, offer a great opportunity to connect with history, whilst surrounding you with rich colour and beauty.

Your Bolivia holiday should take in Bolivia's fascinating main city; La Paz. At nearly 3500m above sea level, La Paz, Bolivia's de-facto capital, is the highest capital on earth. Its streets are laden with indigenous Andean culture and despite its down at heel appearance, is a fascinating city to explore.  Other poignant highlights include Lake Titicaca, the mines at Potosi and the colonial grandeur of Sucre, Bolivia's official capital city. But perhaps Bolivia's most dramatic destination is the Salt Flats at Uyuni - a unique and awe-inspiring landscape that includes a vast salt plain, red desert and multi-coloured lakes on which flamingos rest. Cross this majestic landscape by jeep with access routes to continue on to Chile or even Argentina.

Travel in Bolivia and you will have discovered South America's best kept secret.
