Every province of Canada is diverse, but none more so than Manitoba. Winnipeg is a little city with a big city feel, punching well above its weight with a modern sophistication that belies its age and size. Then there is Churchill, about as far from city leanings than you can imagine. Called the Polar Bear Capital of the World, Churchill is also known as Manitoba's beluga whale watching hotspot, and the approach of winter also makes Churchill one of the best places to experience the northern lights. But this isn't all there is to Manitoba, despite the obvious draws. What lies between the two is a great expanse of untapped, unspoiled prairie that seems to stretch forever. The great rolling fields yield grain, towering sunflowers and thick carpets of wildflowers that spool northwards until they reach the Arctic tundra. The magnitude of Manitoba means a lot of the province is untouched by tourism, the 'real Canada', if you will. It's also home to Hudson's Bay, with its rugged coastline that houses polar bears, beluga whales and 1,230,000 square kilometres of water, making it the second largest bay in the world. Away from the coast endless roads lead to evocative little villages and towns that are full of northern charm and a laid-back feeling that you won't find in the south. Manitoba is full of surprises, and unlike many other Canadian gems, you'll have it mostly to yourself.

Manitoba with A&K

The first visitors to Manitoba were fur traders in the 17th Century. Today, outdoor adventurers still flock to this region of astounding natural beauty for the wide range of activities it offers. The grandeur of the parks throughout the province makes them a great place to explore - perfect for canoeing, fishing, hiking a forest trail. You will meet old-fashioned hospitality in the picturesque villages that dot the landscape of the Pembina Valley. In the capital city Winnipeg you will encounter both the vibrant atmosphere of a big city and a small-town charm. If it's the spirit of the past you are looking to discover, then travel to the Interlake region - its beaches and marshland are a haven of history.

Guest Testimonial

We especially enjoyed Nita Lake Lodge, we found it very beautiful with a "relaxed" style. We had a wonderful room and perfect service by very helpful and friendly staff. We just loved this place; peaceful, and yet close to Whistlers.
