Spirit Bears of Canada with Mark Carwardine

The Kermode bears of British Columbia are a unique subspecies of the black bear. Due to their pale and sometimes white colour they are often referred to as the spirit or ghost bear and are revered by Native Americans.

Saturday 8th September 2012 - London/Vancouver
Depart London for your flight to Vancouver. Upon arrival in the evening you will be met and transferred to the Shangri La Hotel.

Sunday 9th September 2012 - Vancouver
A full day at leisure to explore the spectacular harbour city of Vancouver.

Monday 10th September 2012 - Vancouver/Princess Royal Island
Transfer to the South Terminal Airport for our chartered flight from Richmond to Bella Bella. From Bella Bella the adventure begins with a 45 minute seaplane flight to King Pacific Lodge, located on the spectacular Princess Royal Island.

Tuesday 11th to Thursday 13th September 2012 - Princess Royal Island
Over the coming days there will be chance to explore this beautiful and remote part of Canada from your base at King Pacific Lodge. Moored in the shelter of Barnard Harbour, the lodge is positioned to capture the spectacular views of the wilderness. All meals are included and served in the dining room with views of the ocean.

Mark and a local native guide will accompany you to go in search of the Kermode (spirit) bears. Found only on Princess Royal and its neighbouring islands, this rare all-white black bear is one of Canada's ecological treasures. According to local legend, if you are lucky enough to see one of these very special bears, you will be rewarded with good fortune.

King Pacific Lodge has a range of other activities available for you to explore this remote part of the Canadian wilderness including kayaking and hiking trails. There is a spa for muscle relaxing treatments. At night explore the night sky through the high-powered telescope.

Friday 14th September 2012 - Princess Royal Island/Vancouver/London
Time to leave this wonderful area. Depart by seaplane to Bella Bella for our chartered flight back to Vancouver to connect with your international flight to London, arriving on Saturday 15th September. Extensions throughout Canada can be arranged.
