Perivolas Traditional Houses

Mykonos and Santorini , Greece

NEED TO KNOW

  • Each private, air-conditioned house, with its own stone terrace is furnished with island antiques and handmade objects
  • Perivolas is perched on the cliffs above the Aegean Sea, a leisurely stroll from the village of Oia, Santorini
  • The restaurant serves Mediterranean cuisine with vegetables grown in the hotel gardens
  • The Perivolas infinity pool, one of the most magnificent settings on earth, has been featured on the cover of the Condé Nast Traveller Magazine
  • Other facilities include a fitness studio, steam bath, sauna, open-air Jacuzzi and beauty treatments
  • This hotel is not open to children under the age of 16
  • A&K recommends the two signature Perivolas Suites, featuring spacious living areas in a grotto-like setting as well as a steam bath and private pool

THE HOTEL
Lovingly restored to reach the height of immaculate, sophisticated chic, Perivolas is a genuine one-off. Three-hundred year old caves, once home to local fishermen and farmers have been converted into traditional apartments and gain a simple elegance from natural sweeping curves, vaulted roofs and domed ceilings.

The interiors are reminiscent of the work of Cesar Manrique - all organic forms and smooth surfaces that make the most of a volcanic landscape. Breezy rooms are naturally cooled by sculpted stone walls and vaulted ceilings pierced by skylights. Beds are built into snug alcoves, whilst niches and archways are scooped out of whitewashed walls.  Low-slung sofas are offset by hand-woven rugs and cushions in vivid fuschia and lilac.

From its position high on the cliffs, Perivolas provides incredible views across the azure Aegean Sea.

We recommendOur favourite place was the poolside terrace - the perfect place to watch the world-renowned Oia sunset over a relaxed cocktail and a plate of mezedes - the small Greek delicacies that traditionally accompany aperitifs.

Greece

Best time to be there

The mainland and islands are very hot and dry in July and especially August, the preferred travel month for French, Italian and Spanish holiday makers, making conditions busy, hotel availability limited and the beaches crowded. May, June and September are infinitely more comfortable and generally less expensive.
