Day 1 UK / Reykjavik
Touching down at Keflavik’s small but perfectly-formed airport, you could be forgiven that you were landing in a children’s playground, thanks to the primary-coloured Lego-like installations dotted around like giant building blocks. The airport characterises the country; small, colourful, friendly and straightforward. Your driver will be waiting to welcome you the moment you step into the Arrivals Hall, and will take you straight to your hotel.

Day 2 Golden Circle
A Land Cruiser will be dropped off at your hotel ready for your adventure to begin – in the Golden Circle, the region that showcases the best of the country’s natural beauty – the enthralling landscapes, powerful geysers, magnificent waterfalls and volcanic craters of Thingvellir National Park. A huge part of Iceland’s history since the first Althingi (parliament) in 930, it is a UNESCO World heritage site and a geological phenomenon, standing on two tectonic plates that are gradually moving away from each other, the turbulent underground geothermal activity is evidenced by the number of hot spouting geysers. The Great Geyser is the most famous, while Stokkur is the most energetic, bursting skywards every few minutes up to a height of 40 meters. In contrast, Gullfoss waterfall plummets magnificently down 32 meters in two stages into the canyon below, fed by the meltwater of Langiokull glacier. You’ll also see the huge lake of in the crater of Kerid volcano in Grimsnes, whose inky blue waters are strikingly framed by the earthy shades of the steep crater walls.
Ranga Lodge | Meals: Breakfast

Day 3 South Shore
Head to Iceland’s south shore, a volcanic area characterised by magnificent waterfalls and black sand beaches that stretch as far the eye can see. Seljarlandsfoss waterfall flows with the meltwater of the famous Eyjafjallajokull glacier, dropping a spell-binding 60 feet over cliffs – there is footpath behind the waterfall, so if you are not afraid to get a little damp, it is worth taking a walk behind it for an other-worldly experience.
Ranga Lodge | Meals: Breakfast

Day 4 Reykjanes Peninsula with Blue lagoon
Reykjanesskagi is a peninsula at the southwestern end of Iceland, near the capital Reykjavik, characterised by the thermal activity under its surface, and large lava fields which allow little vegetation. There are however numerous hot springs and sulphur springs to see, the highlight being The Blue Lagoon, whose waters are rich in minerals that are known to have healing powers. Make sure you remember to bring your swimmers, so you can take a dip in the thermal waters and slather the white mud on your skin – a natural spa treatment before you head home; you’ll feel fantastic as a result!
Hotel Alda | Meals: Breakfast

Day 5 Departure
After breakfast, drive back to the airport to drop off your Land Cruiser before your flight home.

Best time to be there

June to September is a great time to enjoy a mild ocean climate thanks to the Gulf Stream. It is relatively mild in winter and cool in summer but this is when you can enjoy almost 24 hours of daylight. The weather can change several times during the day. In midwinter, whilst there is little daylight, it is one of the best times to see the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis).
