Why we like it
- Set against a backdrop of majestic mountainous lava
- In the Thingvellir National Park, a perfect location for the Golden Circle
- Outstanding Silfra restaurant
- Northern lights bar for Aurora Borealis displays
- We recommend the deluxe rooms for the added space and entry to the Lava Spa
The floor to ceiling windows in the Deluxe rooms were ideal for Northern light spotting on our trip when we needed a warm room and comforting Negroni.
Ben was very friendly and enthusiastic right from the start. He seemed very knowledgeable about Iceland, and suggested a few extra excursions we had not even considered.
- JM, Lonodn
The hotel is minimalist as you would expect of Nordic design, with accents of nature. Views are over the Thingvellir Lake or Nesjavellir geothermal Power Plant. Standard rooms and the more spacious deluxe rooms adorned with Icelandic horse art all boast organic linens and bathrooms with power showers.
Activities on offer are the Lava Spa with its outdoor heated relaxation pool and sauna, fishing in Lake Thingevllir and many hiking routes.
The Silfra restaurant and bar serves Nordic cuisine with an emphasis on local produce. The Northern Lights bar is the ideal indoor space to watch the magical light display over the winter period.
Best time to be there
June to September is a great time to enjoy a mild ocean climate thanks to the Gulf Stream. It is relatively mild in winter and cool in summer but this is when you can enjoy almost 24 hours of daylight. The weather can change several times during the day. In midwinter, whilst there is little daylight, it is one of the best times to see the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis).
