Castello del Nero
Why we like it
- In the heart of Chianti
- A true 12th century castle on a private estate
- Shuttle to Florence and Siena for exploring
- All About Pasta cooking classes for budding chefs
Promenade of the Marquise is a romantic path through ancient cypress trees created for the Marquise Teresa Del Nero, allowing her a shaded, private and hidden route to woodland next to the castle.
This private estate with its 50 rooms is a delight. The original frescoes, vaulted ceilings and fireplaces are located in common areas and guest rooms alike, exuding the charm and history of the noble estate it once was.
Take the complimentary shuttle service between Florence or Siena for exploring on your own or walk into Tavernelle to experience local life. La Torre Gourmand Restaurant, awarded with one Michelin star makes the most of the local produce and La Taverna in the castles kitchen is the place for Tuscan grills or on its terrace in the summer. ESPA at Castello del Nero brings the Tuscan hills to your doorstep with the outdoor vitality pool and the outdoor heated swimming pool with immaculate lawns has the best views over the valley. Indulge on the wine and olive oil made on estate that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
Best time to be there
Coastal areas and the islands are great year round, although July and August can be very hot. The arts and opera seasons are generally at their peak outside these months. August is very much a shut down month as Italians take their annual break.
