Castiglion Del Bosco

Best time to be there

Coastal areas and the islands are great year round, although July and August can be very hot. The arts and opera seasons are generally at their peak outside these months. August is very much a shut down month as Italians take their annual break.

NEED TO KNOW

  • Castiglion del Bosco is one of the largest estates in Tuscany and is situated in an amazing 4,500 acres of protected nature preserve
  • The 23 luxurious Suites and Guestrooms range in size from 750 to 2,500 square feet and are designed to reflect the beauty and spirit of Tuscan life and are exquisitely furnished by its owners since 2003, the Ferragamo family
  • Castiglion Del Bosco has its own signature Daniela Steiner spa which opened in 2010, where you can pamper yourself with its wonderful choice of treatments, all of which utilize organic ingredients from the Estate
  • There are two restaurants on the Estate; choose from the traditional Osteria which offers a more casual dining experience or the Ristorantee Del Drago for an elegant fine dining experience
  • A range of activities and onsite events including Tuscan cooking lessons, landscape painting, yoga and pilates classes and guided wine tasting

THE HOTEL
Situated in the heart of Tuscany's Brunello winemaking region, Castiglion del Bosco is one of Tuscany's largest contiguous estates. It is located in the Val d'Orcia, 12 km from the Province of Siena and just 95 km south of Florence. During your stay here you will experience sophisticated yet relaxed living, sumptuous suites and villas combined with a seamless and unobtrusive service.

The estate is beautifully situated and has seen many changes in its 800-year history, yet in essence it has changed very little. Scattered across the property are remnants of a rich past: a circular Etruscan stronghold dating back to 600 BC, a 12th century castle fortress, ruins of an early Gothic chapel (c. 900 BC) and Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo, with its spectacular Lorenzetti fresco. Today, Castiglion del Bosco is a completely restored Estate with a focus on the land, the wine, the history. The debut of Il Borgo offers a fortunate few a limited opportunity to taste the exquisite lifestyle that can only be experienced here.

We recommendWe spent a wonderful afternoon in La Canonica, once the priest's house and now the home of the cooking school, where the expert chefs demonstrated the art of pasta making. Following the lesson you then sample your own cooking ability in the enotecta wine bar, the perfect end to the day.

Guest Testimonial

First experience with A&K. Intended to ask various travel companies for quotes but Vicky (Agnew) was so good with her suggestions that we did not seek alternative quotations the suggested itinerary was excellent and helped us decide on a balanced and interesting holiday.
