Weather

Mauritius experiences a hot and humid summer from December to April and cooler, drier conditions from May to November. Under the influence of the prevailing south-easterly winds, the east coast is slightly cooler and wetter than the west. The winds can bring a welcome relief to the east coast in the hottest summer months but are more blustery here in July and August. The cyclone season lasts from December to March. Although a direct hit is rare, cyclones far out at sea can bring some days of squally rain.

THE HOTEL
Sitting on three crescents of soft white sand, overlooking the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, The Oberoi Mauritius is surrounded by beautiful subtropical gardens. 20 acres of grounds include fragrant Frangipani trees, African tulip trees, bright red flame trees and an exotic bouquet of bougainvillea, hibiscus and oleander.

This stylish resort reflects the island's rich multicultural heritage, in tandem with Oberoi's tradition of unparalleled hospitality and legendary service. Treat yourself from top to toe in The Oberoi Spa and float back to your room after enjoying an Ayurvedic or aromatherapy massage. Pick yourself up with a refreshing San Francisco cocktail en route to dinner. Each course at the restaurants resembles a work of art, which tastes as good as it looks. You may find yourself eating a decadent champagne risotto, topped with black truffle, or perhaps a delicately-infused snapper, freshly caught that day.

The sugar-cane thatched Pavilions and Villas are decorated in beige and cream, with furnishings from Africa and Bali. Each features a beautifully carved wooden four-poster bed, sitting area and sunken marble bath, overlooking a private walled garden. 48 stylish Luxury Pavilions have an outdoor terrace with sun-beds, overlooking the gardens and Indian Ocean. But if you are looking for the ultimate in privacy, 24 Luxury Villas are dotted amongst the lush sub-tropical gardens and come with a private pool or garden, and outdoor dining pavilion. Two Royal Villas come with a private butler and have a separate bedroom and bath pavilion, a lounge pavilion and large private swimming pool. One of the Royal Villas has two bedrooms. All accommodation includes a television, DVD player and personal bar. For an extended family, the Royal Villa can be combined with a Luxury Villa with garden or with two Luxury Pavilions. The hotel is 15 kilometres away from the capital city of Port Louis and near the buzzing small town of Grand Baie.

We recommendExperience a voyage of discovery with one of the daily activities from the 'Touching the Senses' programme. Our favourite is an evening of stargazing on the beach with astronomer Bhaskar Desai. He will guide you through the southern constellations and explain the significance of the stars in relation to Hindu mythology.

Guest Testimonial

We very much appreciated the champagne to celebrate A&K's anniversary.  Our guide Omar & driver Basil were both absolutely excellent throughout. Many thanks for making our trip to Jordan so enjoyable and for all the hard work that ensured our holiday ran so smoothly!

A&K Myanmar Relief Fund

AKP's global reach and on-the-ground presence proved to be priceless assets when, in May 2008, Cyclone Nargis devastated Myanmar's Irrawaddy Delta. Our office and teams in Myanmar quickly gathered and delivered essential supplies to affected villages, raising more than $540,000 in contributions for emergency aid. The A&K Myanmar Relief Fund provides support for orphanages and other ongoing needs resulting from the tremendous devastation of Cyclone Nargis.
